Kluyveromyces marxianus S-2-05 and Kluyveromyces lactis S-3-05 were recently isolated from a traditional French cheese, Tomme d'Orchies, and characterized here for their advantages using a different application perspective. First, we established their anti-Salmonella activity and downregulation of the virulence sopD gene of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium, mainly in the presence of K. marxianus S-2-05. In addition to their antagonism, these non-Saccharomyces yeasts were able to survive under conditions mimicking the gastrointestinal environment and to form biofilms on an abiotic device such as polystyrene. These strains also displayed highly hydrophilic cell wall surfaces properties and capacity for adhesion to intestinal Caco-2 cells, thus enhancing their potential as probiotic strains. [less ▲]

On 27 August 2016, the NASA Juno spacecraft performed its first close-up observations of Jupiter during its perijove. Here we present the UV images and color ratio maps from the Juno-ultraviolet spectrometer UV imaging spectrograph acquired at that time. Data were acquired during four sequences (three in the north, one in the south) from 5:00 UT to 13:00 UT. From these observations, we produced complete maps of the Jovian aurorae, including the nightside. The sequence shows the development of intense outer emission outside the main oval, first in a localized region (255 ∘ –295 ∘ System III longitude) and then all around the pole, followed by a large nightside protrusion of auroral emissions from the main emission into the polar region. Some localized features show signs of differential drift with energy, typical of plasma injections in the middle magnetosphere. Finally, the color-ratio map in the north shows a well-defined area in the polar region possibly linked to the polar cap. [less ▲]

This paper presents a novel equivalent, which is suitable for simulation of inertial and primary frequency control effects. In the model reduction procedure, dynamic power injectors are used to replace the external system and to mimic its dynamic behavior. The parameters of the equivalents are tuned with a simple approach presented in this paper. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated on a modified version of the ENTSO-E Dynamic Study Model. The results show that the system frequency response of the unreduced system is retained and a speedup of the simulations of around 4.0 is achieved. [less ▲]

The Typus Melancholicus (TM) is a pre-melancholic personality structure, defined by Tellenbach and Kraus and characterized by the orderliness, conscientiousness, norm orientation and intolerance of ambiguity. This study aims to discriminate the existence of a subgroup TM, among a unipolar depressive population. In order to prove the existence of this subgroup, we translated and administrated the Criteria for Typus Melancholicus (CTM) to a sample of 20 unipolar patients and 20 control participants. The research hypothesis was to find a similar proportion to the one observed in the literature (50% of TM in the unipolar sample). The results demonstrate, as expected, that half of the unipolar sample belongs to a homogeneous subgroup that displays the TM features. Furthermore, no control subjects displays the TM features. Those results suggest that the TM features design a coherent and typical psychopathological structure that can be found in an important proportion of unipolar depressive population. Our study identifies and confirms the existence of a distinct heterogeneity (TM/noTM) inside the unipolar group. This distinction opens the door to some important perspectives in terms of therapy. This paper aims to define and describe the ways of acquiring and transmitting medical knowledge in Greco-Roman Antiquity through an analysis of literary, archaeological, and, primarily, papyrological sources. The methods and practices revealed by these sources include experiment, analogy, and imitation, oral and written teaching, the composition and copying of books (illustrated or not), as well as the elaboration of commentaries, abridgments, questionnaires, and word lists. These modes of knowledge transfer were intended not only for medical practitioners and students, but also for philiatroi, for generally educated people, as well as for scribes, and eventually tachygraphers, of medical books. In Celsus' and Rogatianus' libraries – respectively at Ephesus and Timgad and the function of which is attested by inscriptions — bookcases are usually reconstructed in the niches. These examples have been used to identify other buildings which contained niches as libraries. However, Lora Johnson, in her 1984 Ph.D. thesis, rightfully questioned such an interpretation of the niches. The reconstruction of bookcases seems implausible, since the access to them would have been either impossible, or at least very difficult. The niches were more likely used for the display of statues. Similar arrangements can be found in various buildings, such as nymphaea or the scaenae frontes of theatres. Thus, the mere presence of niches inside a building does not allow to speculate about its function. This article aims at drawing attention to Lora Johnson’s work, the conclusions of which seem to be confirmed by new archaeological studies. [less ▲]

This paper presents a novel approach, which identifies a buffer zone around a given study system and replaces the external system with an equivalent. The aim is to obtain a reduced system, which is suitable for assessment of long-term voltage and frequency dynamics in the study system. First, the proposed methodology ensures that all components, which are impacting the voltage profile of the study system, are included in the buffer zone. For that purpose, the propagation of reactive power changes from the boundary of the study system into the external system are used in a modified depth-first search algorithm to identify the buffer zone. Second, the external system is replaced with equivalents accounting for inertia and primary frequency control effects. The proposed method was successfully tested on a modified version of the ENTSO-E Dynamic Study Model. [less ▲]
